This recipe has just the right amount of spice, a chewy center, and is a perfect treat on a cold winter day. You'll need  butter, white sugar, an egg, molasses, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and ginger.

Mix the liquid ingredients, then add the dry ingredients and mix well.  

Cover the years, I've made this recipe by hand, using a hand-held electric mixer and my KitchenAid stand mixer. They all work just fine.

Cover with plastic wrap or beeswax wrap and chill dough for at least 2 hours.

Remove dough from fridge and form into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in white sugar. Place cookie dough balls on baking sheet and bake.
