In reply to Sage Scott. Hi Sage! Thanks for the comment. Actually, from what I understand, it's best to avoid watering plants and vegetables with water that has gone through a water softener. That's because there's extra sodium in this water, and that has a negative impact on the soil and plants. :)

Great tips! I never considered the impact tap water might have on my backyard garden or indoor houseplants. However, I do have a water softener that covers all of the water in my home. Do you think that will strip out some of the undesirable elements?

Nice tips. I like the idea of keeping a record or journal. I have started some tomato plants indoors and hope to improve how much they produce (last year I was disappointed).

Great ideas for a beginning gardener! I'm fortunate enough to be on a well so I don't have to worry about the chlorine issue, although I do have to be careful with watering that I don't overtax the well when it gets quite dry.
